Why Is Personal Space Good For Studying?

Personal space is vital for good learning because it acts as a physical and psychological buffer, promoting attention, reducing distractions, and increasing overall productivity. Individuals can immerse themselves in the learning process without interruptions from outside stimuli when they have a designated study environment free of intrusions and interruptions.

This sensation of seclusion and control over one’s environment encourages focus and deep engagement with the content, allowing pupils to absorb and retain information more effectively and for extended periods.

Personal space promotes a sense of serenity and well-being, which is necessary for good cognitive performance. Individuals are less likely to experience worry or tension when they feel comfortable and secure in their study environment, allowing them to tackle their academic tasks with greater clarity and mental agility.

Ergonomics, proper lighting, comfortable sitting, and organization are all important considerations when designing an ideal personal study environment. Having a dedicated study area signals to the brain that it is time to focus, which improves concentration and productivity.

Minimizing distractions, such as shutting off alerts, controlling noise, and defining clear study time boundaries with others, all contribute to a productive personal study area. It is critical to strike a balance between comfort and functionality. Individual study space can have a significant impact on one’s capacity to grasp and remember information, making it a vital component of academic achievement.

What Types of Personal Space?

Personal space can be classified into several sorts, each catering to a distinct area of a person’s life and wants. Here are some examples of personal space:

1. Personal Space Workspace

This is the place assigned for work or study. It includes one’s desk, office, or any other location where work-related duties are completed. It is critical for productivity and focus to have a well-organized and efficient workstation.

2. Recreational Personal Space

This is the area in which people participate in hobbies, relaxation, or personal activities. This space can be a room in a house, a gym, a studio, or any other location where one engages in leisure activities or pursues particular hobbies.

3. Creative Personal Space

Often associated with artists, authors, or creators, this environment is where people cultivate their creativity. It could be a studio, a designated area with art equipment, or a quiet place where creative thinking and work can thrive.

4. Physical Personal Space

This relates to an individual’s immediate surroundings. It includes the space needed to feel comfortable and secure in the presence of others. Cultural standards, personal tastes, and connections can all influence this space. For instance, the distance you keep between yourself and a stranger vs a close friend or family member.

5. Emotional Personal Space

This category includes an individual’s psychological and emotional boundaries. Feelings, thoughts, and experiences one may or may not share with others are included. This space is essential for mental health and may entail establishing relationship boundaries to provide emotional comfort and autonomy.

Each type of personal space is crucial for maintaining a balanced and fulfilling life, and establishing and maintaining these spaces, whether physical or psychological, is essential for one’s well-being, productivity, and overall life satisfaction.

How do you teach personal space and boundaries?

How do you teach personal space and boundaries?

Personal space and boundary education requires a diverse approach that includes both verbal instruction and practical practice. Simple, age-appropriate conversations emphasizing the value of personal space, respecting others’ boundaries, and understanding permission can help youngsters get started.

Teaching personal space and boundaries to adults entails clear communication, active listening, and reinforcement of self-respect. It covers topics such as consent, individual comfort zones, and recognizing nonverbal clues to respect others’ limits. Assertiveness training and role-playing are practical activities that can help adults build and maintain appropriate personal space and boundaries in various social and professional settings.

10 Tips On How To Study Smarter, Not Harder!

Studying smarter entails employing efficient tactics that maximize your time and effort, allowing you to learn more in less time. By making learning appear less daunting and more controllable, studying smarter can help to lessen stress and anxiety. You are less likely to feel pressured or nervous when you feel in control of your studies.

Studying smarter rather than harder is a method that maximizes learning efficiency and efficacy. It entails strategies that are deliberate and focused on optimizing the learning process. Students can absorb and retain material more efficiently using active recall, spaced repetition, and intelligent time management.

By prioritizing quality over quantity, studying smarter helps to reduce stress and fatigue. It enables students to identify their learning styles and use the tools and resources that best meet their needs, resulting in a more in-depth grasp of the topic. Studying smarter gives people the ability to learn more effectively, efficiently, and sustainably, which leads to more tremendous academic success and a higher quality of life.

Is it Better To Study Hard or Study Smart?

Is it Better To Study Hard or Study Smart?

There are multiple convincing reasons why students should emphasize smarter learning over harder learning. Here are some reasons why you should study smarter rather than harder:

1. Strategic Note-Taking

Use a planned note-taking strategy that stresses the creation of brief, organized notes that highlight essential ideas and connections, resulting in a personalized resource that promotes comprehension and acts as an efficient study tool.

2. Active engagement

Experiment with different study techniques, such as creating mind maps, taking part in group discussions, or teaching concepts to others, as these methods actively involve you in the learning process, fostering a deeper understanding of the material and making it easier to recall during exams or discussions.

3. Effective Time Management

Create a comprehensive timetable that not only specifies study hours but also takes into account your peak productivity periods, allowing for a balanced distribution of subjects and topics throughout the day while factoring in breaks to prevent mental fatigue and optimize information absorption.

4. Practice Regularly

Regular review sessions and self-testing should be incorporated into your study regimen to reinforce learning, increase active recall, and identify areas that require extra attention, ultimately cementing your grip on the content.

5. Use Resources Wisely

Investigate a wide range of resources, such as textbooks, academic journals, trustworthy online sources, and educational platforms, to gain a multidimensional grasp of issues, broadening your perspective and expanding your knowledge base.

6. Healthy Lifestyle

Recognize the importance of a healthy lifestyle in academic success by prioritizing adequate sleep, nutritious food, and regular physical activity, as these components have a favorable effect on cognitive ability, overall health, and academic performance.

7. Create a Distraction-Free Environment

Manage and minimize distractions to create a study place free of interruptions, guaranteeing a favorable atmosphere that allows for concentrated, uninterrupted learning, hence improving concentration and overall productivity.

8. Breaks and Rest

Incorporate planned breaks into your study schedule since small periods of relaxation or physical activity help to rejuvenate the mind, revitalize focus, and prevent mental tiredness, enhancing the learning process.

9. Review and Self-Assessment

Conduct frequent reviews of previously covered content as well as self-assessment tasks to not only reinforce learning but also to identify areas for development, allowing for individualized study tactics to target specific issues.

10. Seek Help When Needed

Take a proactive approach by requesting help from educators, classmates, or online forums when you run into problems, and recognize that clarifications or different explanations can considerably improve your knowledge and mastery of complicated subjects.

Definition of Digital Literacy, Its Benefits, Principles, and Examples

Along with the development of technology, communication and information can be conveyed quickly and easily. Technology that is used properly is very capable of helping the development of important fields in people’s lives. Digital literacy is the ability to understand and use information from various sources that are accessed by computers.

In the field of technology, especially information and communication, digital literacy is related to the ability of the user. Ability to use technology wisely to create positive interaction and communication. This method also allows a person to think critically, solve problems, communicate fluently and have opportunities to collaborate.

Definition of Digital Literacy

Simply put, literacy can mean the human ability to read and write, although the understanding is not limited to that ability. There are many understandings of what digital literacy is, as Paul Glister calls it the ability to understand and use information obtained from various sources.

Then Deakin University’s Graduate Learning Outcome 3 states that digital literacy is an effort to utilize technology in finding, using and disseminating information in the digital world as it is today. Meanwhile, Common Sense Media, has another opinion about the meaning of this term.

Communication and Information digital literacy includes three abilities, namely competence in using technology, interpreting and understanding digital content to assessing credibility by researching to communicating with the right tools. It can be concluded that digital literacy is an effort that is needed by someone in this era to filter information accurately.

Poor literacy can have a negative impact on a person’s psychology, especially teenagers because they tend to be unstable and often swallow information raw. Without first finding out the truth and how accurate the information was, this condition caused a lot of uproar due to the wrong information being disseminated.

Principles of Digital Literacy

digital literacy

According to Yudha Pradana in his book entitled Attribution of Digital Citizenship in Digital Literacy published in 2018 mentions several basic principles. Among them are understanding, interdependence, social factors to curation. The following is an explanation of some of the principles of digital literacy.

  • Understanding

In the sense that the public has the ability to understand the information provided by the media, either implicitly or explicitly.

  • Dependency

The media are interdependent and interrelated, the existing media are side by side and complement each other.

  • Social Factor

The media share messages or information with the public, the long-term success of the media is determined by the disseminators and recipients of information.

  • Curation

People have the ability to access, understand and store information for later reading. Curation is the ability to work together in finding, collecting and organizing information that is considered useful.

Benefits of Digital Literacy

Understanding digital information has many benefits for society, starting for oneself and for the general public. Here are some of the benefits that digital literacy provides in everyday life in the Digital Literacy book by Janner Simarmata.

Obtain and expand information quickly and up-to-date, such as if you want to see the flight departure schedule. No need to be at the airport anymore, information about it can be accessed digitally via the internet.

The use of the internet in the digital era makes a person indirectly learn and practice skills. Like when you are going to cook but don’t know for sure what spices to use, everything can be seen and learned through the internet.

The use of internet references anywhere and anytime has proven that the emergence of digital literacy can save time. Today’s internet can be accessed using sophisticated mobile phones, so there is no need to think about what device to use.

Someone is looking for and adding new friends from various regions, as well as countries in various parts of the world only through social media. The new thing that is now increasingly considered as a culture and habit is the ease of using the internet.

Digital Literacy Challenge

  • Lots of Information Flow

The first strongest challenge is that too much information appears, this makes people forced to receive a lot of information at the same time. Digital literacy is literacy whose role is to seek, find, sort and understand correct and accurate information.

  • Negative Content

The large flow of information inevitably makes it difficult to filter the existing content, this gives rise to the presence of negative content. Like pornography, SARA and so on can be viewed and obtained easily through internet access.

Digital Literacy Example

  • School

Communicating with teachers and friends using social media, sending assignments, conducting lessons, and looking for teaching materials from trusted sources.

  • Home

Doing browsing using a browser, listening to music, watching movies, watching cooking tutorial videos on the internet to working using the internet.

That was a brief explanation of the meaning of digital literacy along with the principles to the benefits and examples. Having fun learning about education at Sampoerna University is the right choice. Established with a clear goal of meeting national and international standards, Sampoerna University is uniquely qualified to make a substantive contribution to society through education.

Design Thinking: Understanding, Privileges, and Mindsets

Is it important to know Design Thinking? The answer is yes, by using the design thinking process, we can make decisions based on what our target users really want, not just relying on decisions that come from instinct alone. Let’s check out more about it!

What is Design Thinking?

Design thinking is a people-centred innovation approach (based on understanding customer needs, rapid prototyping, and generating creative ideas) that will change the way people think about how to develop products, services, processes, and organizations.

Design thinking is an ideology and a business process for solving complex problems in a user (customer) centred way. The goal is to focus on achieving results and practical solutions such as:

  • Technically feasible: They can be developed into functional products or processes;
  • Economically viable: Businesses can afford it;
  • Desirable for users: They meet real human needs.

The ideology behind this holds that, in order to come up with innovative solutions, one must adopt a designer’s mindset and approach the problem from the user’s point of view. At the same time, design thinking is about taking a hands-on approach, the goal being to turn an idea into a tangible, testable product or process as quickly as possible.

The design thought process outlines a series of steps that bring this ideology to life, starting with building empathy for users, to generating ideas and turning them into prototypes.

Features of Design Thinking

Design thinking helps us solve serious problems. The uniqueness of these, lies in the types of problems it handles. When it comes to problems to solve with design method, we are not just talking about common problems that have tried and tested solutions.

We are talking about a very complex and serious problem: the kind of problem that refuses to be solved using standard methods and approaches. Not only are these problems difficult to define, but any attempt to solve them is likely to give way to more problems.

Serious problems can occur at any time, ranging from global problems such as climate change and poverty to challenges affecting almost any business such as changing management, achieving sustainable growth, or maintaining our competitive advantage.

5 Design Thinking Principles and Thoughts

Creative think invention inspiration concept

Design thinking has specific and very important principles that are reflected in the methodology. Here are 5 (five) principles that are important in the design thinking method:

  • User centricity and empathy

Design thinking is about finding solutions that respond to human needs and user feedback. Users here mean humans, not technology, are the drivers of innovation, so an important part of this process involves stepping into the user’s shoes and building genuine empathy for our target audience.

  • Collaboration

The purpose of this method is to bring together diverse perspectives and ideas; this is what leads to innovation. Design idea encourages collaboration between heterogeneous multidisciplinary teams that do not normally work together.

  • Idea

Design thinking is a solutions-based framework, so the focus is on generating as many ideas and potential solutions as possible. Ideation is a core principle and a step in the idea of the thinking process. The idea generation step is a defined assessment-free zone where participants are encouraged to focus on the quantity of ideas, not quality.

  • Experiment and iteration

It’s not just about coming up with ideas, it’s about turning them into prototypes, testing them, and making changes based on user feedback. Design idea is an iterative approach, so be prepared to repeat certain steps in the process as we discover flaws and more flaws in the initial version of your proposed solution.

  • Bias towards action

Design thinking is a very practical approach to problemsolving that favors action over the discussion. Instead of hypothesizing what the user wants, design idea encourages us to go out and engage with them directly. Instead of talking about potential solutions, we can turn them into real prototypes and test them in a realworld context.

Examples of Success in Design Thinking

Product and service design is the clearest context in which to benefit from idea of the design. However, the design thinking framework can be used to address all kinds of challenges outside the realm of design.

An example of these method is being increasingly integrated into businesses as a way to drive innovation and teamwork was when IBM developed their Enterprise design framework to “help multidisciplinary teams align with the real needs of their users,” claiming that businesses using the framework are twice as fast to market their products, are 75% more efficient in terms of teamwork, and enjoy a 300% return on investment.

Then there is also the insurance company MassMutual using a thinking approach to overcome the challenge of getting young people to buy life insurance. In partnership with IDEO, they conducted two years of extensive user research.

Based on what they learned, they then began two years of prototyping and testing. The end result is the ‘Society of Grown Ups’, a set of digital tools that help educate young people to make smart financial choices.

  1. Hubert Humphrey Fellowship Program

The Humphrey Fellowship Program has received funding as a Fulbright exchange activity from the U.S. Congress since 1978 to honor the public service career of the late Senator and Vice President, Hubert H. Humphrey (1911-1978). A long-time advocate of international cooperation and understanding, Humphrey served as Vice President of the United States from 1965 to 1969 and for many years as a U.S. Senator from Minnesota.

President Jimmy Carter announced the establishment of the Humphrey Program on a state visit to Venezuela in March 1978. It would be a program, Carter said, embodying the values shared by the United States and Venezuela — democracy, social justice, and a desire to assist the developing nations of the world. A year after Carter’s declaration, the first Humphrey Fellows arrived in the U.S. They were 27 mid-career professionals from 24 countries who would study at 11 U.S. universities and institutions.

Since 1978, more than 6,000 Fellows from 157 countries have participated in the program. More than 40 universities have hosted the Fellows for their year of study.
