Digital Literacy for World-Ready Teachers

Digital Requirements for qualified teachers has continually increased over the years. Not only must they be trained with new and effective teaching and learning pedagogical approaches, but also in engaging with various technological devices in the classroom.

As devices like smartphones and tablets become more pervasive, teachers must be prepared in using them effectively and appropriately in creating engaging learning activities. Students also need guidance and mentoring in using these devices as a valuable learning tool. By incorporating technology, our trainee students can equip their future students with digital literacy.

At Sampoerna University, our teaching students are fully equipped in Technology Education and STEAM when they graduate. They are taught using the “Everyone Can Create” curriculum by Apple In the last two years. Twenty eight students have taken the Educational Technology module in which they were trained in using the iPads to create effective lessons by a qualified and accredited Apple Professional Learning Specialist.

“A small step, but definitely in the right direction for the students of Teacher Education at Sampoerna University,” said Manoharan Karthigasu (Head of Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning). (*/)
