About

The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) was established to enhance the quality of teaching practices of Sampoerna University (SU) faculty members. CETL views excellence in teaching-learning as the most important aspect that promotes student success. Thus, CETL is committed to enhancing faculty members’ capacity through various professional development programs on innovative pedagogical practices, cutting-edge technologies, and building students’ 21st-century skills. CETL values and recognizes SU faculty members’ excellence in teaching-learning practices and innovation.

The Main Goal of CETL

In the period of 2020-2025, the main goal of CETL is to achieve Sampoerna University’s STRATEGIC GOAL 2. C: 

 

  • Develop more robust educational technologies and tools that make the full resources of the university accessible to students. 
  • Develop fully integrated student-centered technology accessible through a centralized portal.
  • Promote and monitor the use of approved Learning Management Systems by all faculty.
  • Provide ongoing technical and pedagogical training of faculty for maximum functionality of the LMS and other learning tools.

CETL Action Plan

Before the Academic Year commences, CETL creates the action plan for the program. It consists of CETL Goals, CETL Objectives, Action Plan, CETL Calender, and Budget.

CETL Report

At the end of the Academic Year, CETL provides a report on the outcomes of the implemented program. The report encompasses both the planned programs outlined in the action plan and those that were not initially included.

CETL Programs and Events

CETL develops and conducts several programs and events to enhance the quality of teaching and learning at Sampoerna University. Those programs are as follows.

 

Workshop

CETL conducts workshop sessions to provide professional development programs for SU faculty members to become excellent in teaching and learning. The goal is to provide professional development programs for SU lecturers to develop their pedagogical practices through innovative tools and methods and build students’ 21st-century skills.

 

SU Teaching Learning Festival (TLF)

CETL organizes the SU Teaching Learning Festival (TLF) at the end of each semester. Each faculty selects a faculty representative(s) who will showcase/present their teaching innovation or best practices in their respective course(s). The program’s goal is to provide opportunities for SU faculty members to share ideas on best practices in utilizing Canvas and other technical tools for innovative teaching, which leads to the scholarly discussion of teaching and learning.

 

SU Awards

CETL administers the SU Awards for faculty members, comprising two awards:

  1. Best Canvas Award (BCA): This award is held every semester. Each study program should nominate one representative for this award.
  2. Teaching Excellence Award (TEA): This annual award is open to each study program, with more than one representative allowed.

Teaching Observation

CETL facilitates the Teaching Observation as a part of monitoring process on teaching and learning. This program scheduled for each semester, involving one lecturer from each study program. Additionally, we are open to the additional participants from study program based on their needs. The program aims to  promote reflective practice for ongoing excellence of teaching and learning at Sampoerna University.

 

Educational Apps Subscriptions

CETL provides app/software subscriptions for SU faculty members to deliver cutting-edge technology to enhance students’ learning. This program aims to improve resources that increase SU faculty members’ accessibility to deliver cutting-edge technology to students.

 

Canvas Tutorial Sessions

CETL conducts Canvas Tutorial Sessions for newly hired lecturers and new SU students. This program takes place before the semester starts, including the summer semester, with the aim of supporting newly hired SU faculty members and new SU students in effectively utilizing Canvas for teaching and learning at Sampoerna University.

 

Personal Consultation Session and Blueprinted Canvas Module Review

CETL provides personal consultation sessions for all SU faculty members to develop a high-quality Canvas module. Additionally, CETL maintains the blueprinted Canvas modules to implement active learning strategies and utilizes appropriate technological tools to support student learning. This program aims to support SU in ensuring the quality of Canvas modules.

 

Active Learning Institute (ALI)

CETL conducts the Active Learning Institute (ALI), which is open to all SU faculty members interested in enhancing active learning in their courses. This program shares the same goal as the workshop program, which is to provide professional development programs for SU lecturers to develop their pedagogical practices through innovative tools and methods and build students’ 21st-century skills.
