Sampoerna University and Tokyo Institute of Technology Forge Pathbreaking Collaboration

News & Event,

On September 28, 2023, Sampoerna University marked a significant milestone in its academic journey as it inked a pivotal Agreement for Cooperation with the esteemed Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech). This landmark agreement was established between Sampoerna University’s Faculty of Engineering and Technology and Tokyo Tech’s School of Environment and Society, promising a new era of academic collaboration and opportunities for students and alums.

The Collaboration Agreement signed on this historic day opens the doors to many opportunities for Sampoerna University students. One of the most noteworthy aspects of this agreement is the provision for student exchange programs at Tokyo Tech. This cooperation paves the way for Sampoerna University students to embark on educational journeys to Tokyo, enriching their academic experience and fostering cross-cultural understanding. Additionally, the agreement extends its benefits to Sampoerna University alums, offering them smoother pathways to pursue Master’s or even Ph.D. programs at Tokyo Tech.

The signing ceremony was a momentous occasion attended by key figures from both institutions. Representing Sampoerna University was Dr. Surya Danusaputro Liman, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology. Dr. Liman, a Ph.D. and a Professional Engineer (PE), played a pivotal role in shaping this collaboration. On the Tokyo Tech side, Prof. Dr. Jun-Ichi Takada, Dean of the School of Environment and Society, signed the agreement, symbolizing Tokyo Tech’s commitment to fostering global academic ties.

The successful execution of this collaboration will be overseen by Farid Triawan, who serves as the person in charge of program execution. Triawan’s experience as a Sampoerna University Mechanical Engineering Head of Study Program and his status as a Visiting Associate Professor at Tokyo Tech (a designation he earned through previous collaborations) make him a fitting choice to lead this venture. His expertise will be invaluable in ensuring the smooth implementation of the agreement.

The partnership between Sampoerna University and Tokyo Tech has steadily grown since 2018, particularly in Mechanical Engineering. The collaboration has yielded numerous research projects that have advanced the boundaries of knowledge in this field. Farid Triawan’s designation as a Visiting Associate Professor at Tokyo Tech highlights the esteem the Tokyo Tech community has held for his contributions. His role includes conducting groundbreaking research alongside Tokyo Tech’s researchers and guiding students pursuing research initiatives.
