Sampoerna University’s Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) in partnership with PT. Flexitech Evolusindo and supported by Asosiasi Printer Tridimensi Indonesia (Indonesia’s Tridimensional Printers Association) recently produced and donated face shield masks to several hospitals in Jakarta and Bekasi amid the current pandemic. This is meant to help the government curb the novel Coronavirus in Jakarta and its neighboring areas after the limited stock of protection tools put our medical workers at risk of contracting the contagious disease.
According to Farid Triawan (Head of Mechanical Engineering Study Program), Sampoerna University initiated the undertaking considering the fact that the university houses 3D printing technology in its lab.
“To produce face shield masks, our university as an international university in Jakarta, owns 3D printing technology in the lab of Faculty of Engineering and Technology that has a lot of most cutting-edge features, among other things producing prototypes instantly with design flexibility,” he stated. Further, he also explained that the 3D printing technology has enabled them to produce and design face shield masks fast.
“Thanks to this technology, it’s possible to meet the high demand of protection masks as fast as possible,” Farid affirmed.
The lecturers of Design Communication Visual Study Program also joined the production team to help design a prototype that can be produced in a large amount.
As of April 17th, 2020 FET has distributed these masks to a number of hospitals in Jakarta and Bekasi. “We have sent 150 face shield masks to MMC Kuningan Hospital, 130 to Pondok Indah Hospital, and 82 to Awal Bros Hospital in East Bekasi,” he added.
“We thank Sampoerna University for donating these 150 face shield masks to our hospital to show its real support for medical workers here,” told dr. Sasha, one of the PR team members of MMC Kuningan Hospital.
This is in line with the mission of Sampoerna University to educate future leaders with moral characters, social responsibility, and skill mastery required to build a better Indonesia. The donation is also part of the realization of Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi, i.e. Dedication to Society. (*/)
