At Sampoerna University, learning goes beyond the classroom. On May 27, 2024, students from various majors took part in a field trip to Pusat Penelitian dan Pengembangan (PUSLITBANG), specifically to the Laboratorium Kebinekaan Bahasa dan Sastra Indonesia, also known as Labbineka.
This immersive learning experience was designed to help students gain a richer understanding of Bahasa Indonesia—not just as a daily communication tool, but as a symbol of unity, a reflection of cultural identity, and a strategic asset in the context of global diplomacy.
A Broader View of Bahasa Indonesia
Through guided tours and engaging sessions, students explored the historical development of Bahasa Indonesia, how the language has evolved into its modern form, and how it stands in relation to other international languages. The field trip also emphasized the unique relationship between local languages and Bahasa Indonesia, highlighting how regional dialects and indigenous linguistic features have helped shape the national language as we know it today.
This perspective encouraged students to view Bahasa Indonesia not only as a subject in their curriculum but as a living, evolving identity of the Indonesian people.
Discovering Language and Culture in Labbineka
One of the highlights of the trip was visiting Labbineka, an innovative language laboratory managed by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. The lab showcases Indonesia’s extraordinary linguistic and literary diversity, offering students a wealth of information on local languages and dialects from across the archipelago, reflecting Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage.
Students also discovered how local languages hold not just linguistic value, but also deep-rooted cultural wisdom and national values that continue to influence the modern use of Bahasa Indonesia.
